Types of Discrimination

There are several types of discrimination and it occurs when someone is treated differently because of a characteristic that makes them different. But discrimination law has been introduced to stop this unfair behavior with discrimination lawyers helping fight for your cause. But what types of discrimination are there to appeal against?

Age

Age discrimination, ageism, usually takes place against the elderly, in circumstances involving employment and is a discrimination against of age. For example an older worker with more experience could be replaced by a younger employee with less knowledgeable of the job.

Gender

Another form of discrimination is against someone’s gender. In most circumstances this form of discrimination happens against women in the workplace. Like age discrimination, gender discrimination could happen when a male worker is earning more money despite having less experience and education.

Race

Race discrimination happens when someone is treated badly based on characteristics of their birthplace or race. These characteristics include physical, cultural or languages and can discriminate against more than just an individual. Employers may refuse to hire anyone with distinctive accents despite being qualified for the role.

These are just three examples of discrimination but other forms can occur in the workplace. These include religious or mental discrimination and lawyers can also help with making a claim.
